INTERVIEW WITH SCOTT

  1. When did you join Verbatim Pharma, and what was your first role?

I first joined Verbatim in January 2024 in the Contract Team and transitioned into my current role focussed on commercial roles in April 2024.

2. What’s been the most rewarding part of supporting candidates in this industry?

I love that I’m genuinely making a difference to people’s lives. If it’s the promotion they feel they’re ready for, or I’m helping them from a difficult situation just knowing that they are putting their trust in me to be a part of that journey is equally humbling and inspiring.

3. Are there any standout moments where you felt you really made a difference to a client or candidate?

I’m happy to say that there are many, I’ve been fortunate enough to ride the emotions with many candidates and clients and hold myself to very high standards in these interactions. I can honestly say there are multiple candidates and clients that I now consider friends. If I had to pick 1, it may have a bit of recency bias, but I received some feedback from a candidate and they way they described the interaction was exactly how I would hope I come across. In fact, I couldn’t have articulated it any better myself!

4. What’s been your proudest moment or most memorable achievement so far?

Again, I’m fortunate to say there have been many moments that have made me proud, but most of all, my pride comes from the feedback I receive from the candidates in their own words. To read back through some of the thoughts of the candidates continues to inspire me. I’ve been told on numerous occasions that I’ve helped restore people faith in recruiters and someone who has newly fallen in love with this industry, that’s something I want to continue doing for years to come.

5. What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced in recruitment — and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge for me has been, not always taking people at face value. We live in a world where people will often tell you what they think you want to hear, and previously I would accept the words that were said and not be equipped with the skills or knowledge to be able to dissect true intentions if they are being veiled. That’s not to say that everyone is doing this but being able to have a realistic outlook and not look at everything through rose tinted glasses, with my glass half full has been a challenge but one that I feel I’ve overcome by just sharpening my commercial acumen by listening and asking the right questions.

6. What’s something people might not realise about working in recruitment?

This isn’t a transactional business. People may carry a perception that we get job descriptions and find people that match those job descriptions, job done. That’s not how we do things here, we are genuine partners in the recruitment process who can and will consult our clients on the interview process, where applicable we will challenge our clients and help them get the very best out of the search we provide. This isn’t a tick box industry and we’re not a tick box agency, we’re a genuine partner and extension of the hiring team.
