INTERVIEW WITH AMELIA

1. When did you join Verbatim Pharma, and what drew you to the role?

I joined the team in January this year, having recently moved to the area from Bristol. I knew I wanted to stay within recruitment, but it was important that I found the right organisation. Throughout the interview process, I had the chance to engage with several members of the team, ask questions, and get a real sense of what it’s like to work here. Verbatim stood out as a values-driven company, with a clear focus on excellent customer service and a supportive, collaborative team culture. It also offered the opportunity to explore a completely new sector, which really appealed to me.

2. What have you enjoyed most about your time here so far?

Learning. Working within the pharma services space and partnering with senior candidates has been a new and rewarding experience. I’ve really enjoyed the challenge, the quality of conversations I’ve had, and the relationships I’ve started to build. It’s amazing to work somewhere where your contributions are recognised, and where you feel part of the team from day one.

3. What attracted you to recruitment and to working in the life sciences sector specifically?

When I was figuring out the next step in my career, I didn’t have a clear path in mind, so I started by thinking about the environments where I thrive. I realised I love being busy, talking to people all day, juggling multiple priorities, and building meaningful relationships, and recruitment ticked all those boxes.

As for life sciences, it’s motivating to know that, even in a small way, the work we do supports patients. By helping leaders and innovators take the next step in their careers, we’re supporting our clients in getting one step closer to delivering life-saving treatments.

4. What’s the most rewarding part of supporting candidates or clients?

Of course, it’s a great feeling when you can tell a candidate they’ve got the job. But for me, the most rewarding part is becoming someone’s trusted support and confidant. Searching for a new role, navigating redundancy, or finding the confidence to step into something new can be daunting and I love being a sounding board for my candidates. Helping them work through these life-changing decisions never gets old.

5. Is there a skill you’ve already developed that’s surprised you?

Prioritisation. I’ve always been good at juggling tasks in fast-paced environments, but at Verbatim I’ve added another layer: managing across multiple time zones, collaborating closely with clients, and maintaining strong relationships with candidates long after their initial application. It’s been a step up – in a good way!

6. What’s been your biggest learning moment since joining Verbatim?

That no matter how experienced or senior someone may be, we are the experts when it comes to recruitment. Our network is strong, and our insight is valuable, we absolutely deserve our seat at the table.

7. What’s one thing you’ve learned about the industry that you didn’t know before joining?

How many genuinely passionate people there are in this space. Across every role and part of the system, I speak daily with individuals who care deeply about their work and the impact it has on patients. It’s incredibly inspiring.

8. What’s something people might not realise about working in recruitment?

It’s fun! If you love speaking to people, enjoy a fast-paced environment, and have a bit of a competitive streak, it can be an exciting and fulfilling career.
