Let’s get to know her a bit more…

INTERVIEW WITH FIONNUALA

1. When did you join Verbatim Pharma, and what was your first role?

I joined in August 2022, so nearly three years ago now! The time has really flown by. My first role was Recruitment Partner, and after 18 months, I was promoted to Senior Recruitment Partner.

2. How has Verbatim changed since you joined—and what do you think has stayed the same?

We’ve definitely grown since I joined. I actually had my interview the same week we moved into our current office, and since then, we’ve added more and more desks as the team has expanded. The launch of Verbatim Life Sciences was particularly exciting as it gave us the chance to diversify, which is so important. We’ve got such a wonderful, ever-growing team, and we’ve all supported each other through major life moments. I’m also really glad to say we still find time to eat lunch together most days!

3. What’s been the most rewarding part of supporting candidates in this industry?

Honestly, the most rewarding part is knowing that, more often than not, you're helping someone through a big and exciting transition. People leave jobs for all kinds of reasons, and I’ve had multiple candidates call me the moment they found out they were being made redundant. There’s a lot of emotion in that. Being able to take a tough situation and help them find something even better, that’s what I love. Sometimes it’s someone not getting promoted internally, and we help them secure that next step. Other times, they’re navigating a difficult challenging environment and we find them the exit they need. That moment when a candidate accepts, it never gets old.

4. What attracted you to recruitment, and why did you choose to join Verbatim Pharma?

I actually went into recruitment straight out of university at a large corporate firm and I didn’t enjoy it at all. The way they did recruitment was very old school, and I realised very quickly it was not something I aligned with and got out of there as quickly as I could. When I considered returning to recruitment a few years later, I was very cautious and did a lot of research. Verbatim had incredible reviews, and when I met the team, it just felt right. There’s so much collaboration and investment in each other as people. We all genuinely want to do right by our clients and candidates and that’s at the heart of everything we do.

5. What’s been your proudest moment or most memorable achievement so far?

Representing the business at GCSG in Florida last year was a huge professional milestone for me. It’s such a brilliant conference, and the fact that Verbatim invested in me to the point where they were proud to have me represent them, it really meant a lot.

6. What’s something people might not realise about working in recruitment?

Recruitment gets a bad reputation, and in some cases, rightly so. Some of what I see on LinkedIn is sometimes questionable. More often than not, we’re working with both clients and candidates to help rebuild their trust after poor experiences with other recruiters. At Verbatim, we’re a lean team and we take so much pride in our work. Doing right by the people we support is our number one priority.
